VoIP media monitoring of the RTP streams associated with the calls is intelligently and automatically carried out, giving an indication of call quality. The SIP messages are inspected and the associated media RTP streams identified. These streams are inspected and software determines the call quality using the techniques outlined in ITU document G.107. The VoIP media monitoring feature also supports other sources of similar information. For, example some phones include the VoIP quality statistics in a special field in the SIP BYE message (X-RTP-STAT Header, like sent e.g. from Snom or AVM FritzBox devices). This allows Palladion to show what the Subscriber perceived quality is. Palladion understands and captures SIP call state, enabling it to generate Call Detail Records (CDRs) for billing purposes. These can be exported to external billing systems for the actual generation of a customer bill.
